The HHS Committee will be “Making African-American Women’s Health a top Priority” by encouraging all Chapters to develop health programs that support health promotion and disease prevention while eliminating health disparities through education, health advocacy and by identifying and utilizing health resources in their respective states.

The HHS Committee, will increase Chapter Awareness of this new Facet’s programs and initiatives while promoting the significance of the “Healthy People 2020” Initiative. “Healthy People 2020” is designed to guide health promotion and disease prevention efforts to improve the health of all people. The HHS Facet will focus on the following :

  • Adolescent Health (Childhood Obesity)
  • Breast Cancer (Komen for the Cure)
  • Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementias (American Psychology Assoc.)
  • Health-related Quality of Life and Well-being (AARP)
  • Heart Disease and Stroke (Heartlinks)
  • Mental Health & Mental Disorders
  • Oral Health (Healthy Smiles)
  • Physical Activity (Walking for Healthy Living)
  • Organ and Tissue Donation (“A New Spin” on Linkages to Life)

We will aid and evaluate each Chapter’s progress toward achieving these Area strategic goals in terms of prevention and promotion efforts as well as program development by having Monthly HHS Committee Con-calls and Quarterly Chapter Progress Reports (Dec 1st, April 1st, June 1st.)
